Former English national, Carlton Cole, recently disclosed a surprising incident involving an inappropriate joke played by some of his teammates during a training camp with the “Three Lions.” Despite the prank, the ex-footballer insists that he remained the quickest player on the field, attributing it to having “three legs.”
At the age of 40, Cole gained recognition in England through his contributions to Chelsea and West Ham in the Premier League, amassing 290 matches and 51 goals in the top tier, along with representing the national team in 7 matches. Cole retired from professional football in 2018 without scoring a goal for the national squad.
However, it appears that his teammates were determined to assist him in achieving that feat, orchestrating an elaborate prank. Cole shared the incident on the “Footballer’s Guide to Football” podcast, revealing that Wayne Rooney, former England captain, along with Jermain Defoe and Shaun Wright-Phillips, once swapped his vitamins with Viagra. This forced Cole to undergo training while feeling “uncomfortable.”
Despite the awkward situation, Carlton Cole believes he showcased his best performance on that particular day: “Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe, and Shaun Wright-Phillips pulled off one of the most absurd pranks during the England national team camp. Those three replaced my vitamins with Viagra just before a training session. I wasn’t sexually aroused during the workout, but it was just there, you know what I mean; I won’t delve into details.
“I was the fastest person on that field because I had ‘three legs,'” Cole stated, taking the incident in good humor and understanding the jest from his teammates.
Defoe, who was also part of the podcast, commented, “Carlton was always smiling, happy, so we thought, if you’re going to prank someone, who will take it in stride? He just took the pills, thinking ‘Oh, yes, vitamins, good for my body.'”
“So much laughter, it was the funniest thing. When we told him afterward, his face was just… that has to be seen!” Defoe jokingly remarked.
Cole responded, “I had erased that from my memory – you bring back bad memories.”
