The Friends Visit Clause

When Barcelona signed Neymar from Santos in 2013, the Spanish club wanted to ensure he wouldn’t feel lonely or homesick for his native Brazil, so he could always be in top form on the pitch. So, Barça came up with a deal that benefited everyone: the friends visit clause.

Despite the huge sum they paid for him, Neymar had a special wish that his new employers granted. His close circle of friends from home, called “The TIOSS,” flew to Barcelona every two weeks, with the travel expenses covered by the club. Neymar was happy, and he established himself as one of Barcelona’s greatest players in the modern era.
